AUTUMN WINTER 2020

INTERACTION OF MIND & BODY

In this exciting, post-minimal AW20 collection, Omar Afridi pays homage to traditional aesthetic methodologies, where the optimal form is the hard-won outcome of an exciting journey. Omar Afridi achieves, in each final design, the purest possible expression of his initial idea. Unintentional shapes are born out of an interaction of mind and body, acquire functionality. They become clothing that, in assuming colour, texture, and detail, make manifest the production itself.

These functionless sculptural silhouettes, when inhabited by the body, acquire functionality. They become clothing that, in assuming colour, texture, and details, make manifest the production process itself.

AW20 “INTERACTION OF MIND AND BODY” PRESENTATION

Omar Afridis show reflects the three-stage development process behind his AW20 collection- the invitation alludes to the sketch, the installation of sculptural forms, the maquette, the fashion show, the fully realized work of art.
Evoking processes intrinsic to Omar Afridi’s practice, a sculptural installation sets a stage for red garments that link to the sculptural form- celebrating the shared origin of art and fashion. The finished garments that subsequently emerge from the centre- the matric of all states- are themselves the distillation and outcome of this intense artistic process.
